Our Approach to Documentary Filmmaking
The Founder and CEO of the company brings more than 10 years’ experience in documentary film-making and credited for hundreds of commissioned and co-funded multi Award-Winning Documentaries as Commissioning Editor and Head of the Factual Department of the SABC. She has been involved in documentary filmmaking from idea through concept development to a finished product on screen. Each documentary is thoroughly researched and fleshed out from concept to final script, with client approvals every step of the way. From concept development and pre-production all the way through to production and post-production, we have the required knowledge and have mastered the art of Documentary storytelling across all genres and platforms. Using only South Africa’s top editors, D.O.Ps and supporting crew, we will ensure that every documentary production that we undertake, supersedes our clients’ standards and expectations, but more so, each documentary we produce delivers high production values and that it is content with an ability to travel and be viewed by audiences beyond South Africa.

Sunrise Emandleni is a newly established media skills development training, TV and Film Production Company and Production Consulting Services by Founder and CEO, Ms Thando Shozi; a company she started after 27 years of public service at the SABC (South African Broadcasting Corporation)
We have a huge love and passion for film and television and we recognise the importance of development of skills in these areas to ensure wider access to the film and production industry. Our desire is to train and nurture the next generation of film-makers and in the process, re-position and restore the image of African stories it terms of representation and to produce the best images possible.
We have unique access to an extensive database of experienced and professional individuals who have a good work track record in delivering outstanding work in different roles of production in the South African film and television industry.

Training
Our training initiatives have brought to us unique access to a pull of young, new talent and potential contestants that is in our database for projects or shows that can be provided to clients. We are therefore able to we do it for you. All you need to do is to give us the project profile, your criteria and bench mark of contestants and we’ll source them for you. Profiles, pictures, demos … etc. We will save you all the hassle, profiles ready for filtering.
Executive Support
We provide Executive Production support and expertise where we take our learners through the production phase whether it’s pre-production, actual production or post production. We do it all and we hold their hand through the journey of production with our experienced team of our team of producers and technical director and content strategists making sure to take away the stress of achieving set production milestones to ensure that the work is done and production pit falls and hassles are avoided and/or resolvede
Documentaries
We have a passion for documentaries, factual accounts in different forms under the documentary genre including nature, wildlife and conservation short films, investigative journalistic documentaries or work to the client’s own specific needs. Each project we undertake is different so we treat each as an entirely new concept and project. We understand the importance and value of involving our clients in every stage of approval from the start to the end of each project.
Pre-Productions
We are fully equipped in the area of pre-production where ideas are researched and developed and we have produced trailers, demos and promos and some music videos but we are growing into made for TV movies, dramas, documentaries and dramas for radio and presenter training through our skills development training initiatives. We are looking into equipping ourselves with our own necessities for production and post production, editing and final cut gear and equipment.
Production
We are your partners in production We started with self-funded workshops in acting, drama and filmmaking where we are able to work and assist young people to hone different skills in radio, film and production fields. We are now venturing through sound partnerships to providing accredited and non-accredited training in the field. The Community of Sunrise Emandleni will offer a one-stop shop for production services starting from creative content and talent development through execution and distribution when needed.
Construction
Sunrise Emandleni has also expanded and opened up doors to new ventures. We also provide services pertaining to the construction industry. This will now allow us to engage with clients on platform where can provides quality and reliable deliverables to all you construction needs and requirements. What type of certificate does one get after finishing one of the courses you provide?
It all depends on the type of course but we will either issue our learners with a certificate of completion or SETA accredited certificate through one of our partners.

Do you only offer training in film and television?
Sunrise Emandleni only started operating in April 2021 and we are currently offering training in film and TV but we are in the process of growing to other industries. Please look out for updates on this website on new areas we are planning to venture into.

Have you produced your own work in the area of film that we can see?
We started our operations less than a year ago, in 2021; we have two exciting projects that are underway and the information on their launch will be made available on this platform when the time comes.

Definitely; we have years of experience television and we offer consulting services in programme making from an idea to a finished product.
